The Behavioral Intensive
The Behavioral Intensive is a focused therapy session built around one clear goal: understanding what's driving the pattern you're stuck in, what's keeping it in place, and what needs to change.
From there, we build a personalized plan based on what we uncover.
Rather than open-ended weekly therapy, the Intensive provides concentrated clinical work with a clear structure. It's designed for adults who are stable, functioning, and ready to do focused work.
A focused three-hour therapy session. You'll reserve four hours so we have additional time if needed and don't have to rush the work. The fee remains the same regardless of whether the additional time is used.
A personalized behavioral formulation based on our work together.
A customized written report with findings and recommendations, delivered within seven days.
A Weight & Mind workbook with self-monitoring exercises, worksheets, and behavioral strategies based on your plan.
Two 30-minute follow-up therapy sessions, scheduled approximately two weeks and six weeks after your Intensive.
Referrals and additional resources when appropriate.
— Accelerated Clinical Care
We start by building a clear picture of what's happening, what may be contributing to it, what you've already tried, and what has or hasn't helped.
This is where we begin connecting the pieces and developing a shared understanding of the patterns we're going to work on.
Based on your intake and assessment, we'll focus on the areas most relevant to what brought you in. That may include emotional triggers, ingrained habits, unhelpful thought patterns, avoidance, difficulty tolerating uncomfortable emotions, body image, values, specific barriers to change, or the identity shifts that can accompany significant changes in your body.
Part 3: The Roadmap (~45 minutes)
We bring the work together into a practical plan.
We'll identify your primary barriers, clarify what needs your attention, and develop specific strategies and exercises you can begin using after the session. We'll also plan for situations that are likely to make change more difficult, so you have strategies for responding when old patterns show up.
Your written report and Weight & Mind workbook will build on this work and give you something concrete to continue using after the Intensive.
Every Intensive is individualized. I draw from several evidence-based approaches depending on your needs and the patterns we identify together.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
We examine the relationship between triggers, thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, including what may be reinforcing a pattern over time. From there, we work on strategies for interrupting that cycle.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
ACT can help you change how you respond to difficult thoughts, emotions, and body-related experiences rather than becoming caught in a constant struggle with them. This may include cognitive defusion, present-moment awareness, self-compassion, values clarification, and values-based action.
Motivational Interviewing
Change can involve ambivalence. Motivational Interviewing helps us explore both the part of you that wants something to change and the part that may feel uncertain, resistant, or not quite ready, while strengthening your own reasons for moving forward.
Mindfulness-Based Techniques
Mindfulness can help you become more aware of hunger, fullness, emotions, urges, triggers, and automatic responses without immediately reacting to them.
Nervous System Regulation
Stress and emotional activation can influence how we respond to food, discomfort, urges, and difficult emotions. We'll work on recognizing your body's stress responses and developing practical strategies for regulating them so you have more room to respond intentionally rather than automatically.
Gut-Brain Connection Psychoeducation
Appetite, cravings, mood, stress, gastrointestinal experiences, and eating behavior can interact in complex ways. Understanding these connections can provide useful context for what you're experiencing, particularly when appetite has changed with GLP-1 treatment. This is psychoeducation within psychotherapy, not nutrition counseling or medical advice. Medical and nutritional concerns should be addressed with your physician or dietitian.
It's focused, practical work on the specific psychological and behavioral patterns keeping you stuck, grounded in clinical training and evidence-based care.
Starting or considering a GLP-1
Build the emotional and behavioral foundation before or alongside medication, with attention to the patterns that may not change simply because your appetite does.
Currently on a GLP-1 or after bariatric surgery
Work through body image, identity, eating patterns, and relationship changes that can accompany significant physical change, while developing coping strategies that support your psychological well-being throughout the process.
Working on your relationship with food and your body, with or without further weight change
Address emotional eating, ingrained habits, body image, and behavioral patterns through structured psychotherapy. The work does not require pursuing a smaller body. The focus is on developing a healthier relationship with food, your body, and the patterns affecting how you want to live.
The Intensive model isn't the right fit for everyone. It's designed for adults who are stable, functioning, and ready to do focused, structured therapeutic work.
It is not designed for individuals experiencing a severe or medically unstable eating disorder, acute psychiatric symptoms, active safety concerns or suicidal ideation, or those who need ongoing weekly therapeutic support.
If the Intensive isn't appropriate for your needs, I'll let you know directly and, when possible, point you toward a provider or level of care that may be better suited to you.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Behavioral Intensive, and how is it different from weekly therapy?
The Behavioral Intensive is a focused, three-hour psychotherapy session. It's designed to help you better understand the thoughts, emotions, and behavioral patterns influencing your relationship with food, eating, and your body, and develop practical strategies for addressing them.
Weekly therapy provides ongoing support through shorter, regularly scheduled sessions. The Behavioral Intensive offers an extended period of focused therapeutic work around specific concerns. Neither format is inherently better. The right choice depends on your individual needs and circumstances.
Who is the Behavioral Intensive appropriate for?
The Behavioral Intensive is designed for adults who are clinically stable and ready to engage in focused therapeutic work. You may be starting or taking a GLP-1 medication, preparing for or recovering from bariatric surgery, or looking to address emotional eating, body image concerns, or long-standing behavioral patterns.
The intensive is not appropriate for individuals experiencing severe or medically unstable eating disorders, acute psychiatric symptoms, active safety concerns, or those who require ongoing weekly therapy or a higher level of care.
If your needs fall outside the scope of this service, I'll let you know and, when possible, provide appropriate referral options.
Since you don't offer consultations, how do I know if it's right for me?
I don't offer consultation calls. Instead, you'll begin by completing a brief inquiry form describing what you're looking for. I'll personally review your information and let you know whether the Behavioral Intensive appears appropriate for your concerns.
If it seems like a potential fit, I'll explain the next steps, including the intake and screening process that takes place before your session. This helps determine whether the intensive is clinically appropriate for your needs.
If you're considering working with me, the best way to learn more is by exploring this website. You'll find detailed information about my approach, the clients I work with, and what you can expect from the intensive. If it feels like a good fit, I'd be honored to support you.
Submitting an inquiry doesn't obligate you to book or pay for anything.
What happens during the three-hour session?
The Behavioral Intensive is a structured, three-hour psychotherapy session focused on understanding and addressing the psychological and behavioral concerns that brought you to Weight & Mind.
Throughout our time together, I'll use evidence-based therapeutic approaches to explore your experiences, identify patterns that may be contributing to your concerns, and help you develop practical strategies tailored to your needs.
The session is individualized, so the specific areas we focus on and how we spend our time will depend on your history, goals, and clinical needs.
Although the intensive itself lasts three hours, I recommend reserving a four-hour window to allow for flexibility without feeling rushed.
What will I receive afterward, and how do the follow-up sessions work?
Following your intensive, you'll receive a personalized written report summarizing the behavioral formulation, key findings, and recommendations discussed during our session. You'll also receive a Weight & Mind workbook with exercises and worksheets to help you practice and apply the strategies we've developed.
Your written materials will be provided within one week of your intensive.
Your package also includes two 30-minute follow-up sessions, scheduled approximately two and six weeks after the intensive. These appointments allow us to review your progress, discuss challenges, and make adjustments to your plan as needed.
If you'd like additional support, optional 30-minute follow-up sessions are available for $250 each. If ongoing weekly therapy would better meet your needs, I can provide referral recommendations when appropriate.
Do I need to be taking a GLP-1 medication or have had bariatric surgery?
No. You don't need to be taking a GLP-1 medication or have undergone bariatric surgery to benefit from the Behavioral Intensive.
I work with adults at different stages of their experiences with weight and body image. Some are preparing to start a GLP-1 medication, currently taking one, or adjusting to life after bariatric surgery. Others want to address emotional eating, behavioral patterns, body image concerns, or their relationship with food without pursuing medical weight-loss treatment.
The focus is on your individual psychological and behavioral concerns, regardless of whether medication or surgery is part of your experience.
Will the Behavioral Intensive help me lose weight?
Weight & Mind takes a weight-neutral approach to psychotherapy. This means I don't measure therapeutic progress by your weight changes.
My work focuses on helping you better understand your thoughts, emotions, behavioral patterns, and relationship with food and your body. The goal is to support meaningful psychological and behavioral changes based on your individual needs, rather than a particular number on the scale.
I don't prescribe medication, provide nutritional treatment, or guarantee weight-loss outcomes. When appropriate and with your consent, I can collaborate with your medical provider or registered dietitian as part of your care.
Are sessions online, and where do I need to be located?
Yes. All Behavioral Intensive sessions and follow-up appointments are conducted through secure video.
I'm licensed to provide psychotherapy in Florida, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware, and Washington, DC.
To receive services, you must reside in one of these jurisdictions and be physically located in a jurisdiction where I'm authorized to practice at the time of each appointment. Eligibility is also subject to applicable licensing requirements.
If you're traveling outside an authorized jurisdiction at the time of your appointment, the session may need to be rescheduled.
How much does it cost, and can I use insurance?
The Behavioral Intensive is $1,800. This flat fee includes the three-hour psychotherapy session, your personalized behavioral formulation, written report, workbook, and two 30-minute follow-up sessions.
Additional 30-minute follow-up sessions are available for $250 each.
Weight & Mind is a private-pay practice and does not bill insurance directly. The Behavioral Intensive package is not eligible for a superbill or insurance reimbursement through my practice.
For separately purchased additional follow-up sessions, I can provide a superbill upon request. Out-of-network reimbursement, including the amount reimbursed, is not guaranteed and depends on your insurance plan.

A Changed Body Is Only Part of the Journey
The rest of it happens in how you think, cope, eat, and see yourself. That's the work we'll do together in the Behavioral Intensive.
